Respected Russian coach Vladimir Kamelzon has revealed his observations on male tennis players he follows, particularly those outside of Russia.
Kamelzon stated, “Take our guy Popyrin. Yes, he was born in Australia and is, of course, Australian, but he grew up in a Russian-speaking family and speaks Russian fluently. He recently defeated Ruud, who was ranked seventh in the world, which is very encouraging. He is a very good young man. Popyrin is progressing according to his own plan and has the potential to improve his game further. He once reached a ranking of 25th, and while he has slightly dropped back now, he is developing independently, and it seems he receives support rather than criticism in Australia.”
Currently, Alexei Popyrin holds the 26th position in the ATP rankings. His career-high ranking was 23rd in 2024.
