Renowned Russian coach Viktor Yanchuk has shared his thoughts on Daniil Medvedev`s recent decline in performance. Following the Miami Masters tournament, Medvedev is expected to fall out of the top 10 in the world rankings.
“It`s simply a matter of the ranking system; this is just how it has played out at this moment. Both Rublev and Medvedev are currently not showcasing their best tennis, not playing at their peak. While Rublev managed to win a tournament, Medvedev has not achieved the same success recently. However, I believe Daniil will recover; he is currently in a prolonged slump.”
“When considering Grand Slam events, Medvedev`s probability of victory isn`t very high at the moment, but the possibility still exists. If he reaches his optimal condition, ATP tournaments are certainly within his capabilities, and he is still capable of achieving significant results. It is premature to dismiss him,” stated Yanchuk.
It was also noted that tennis expert Evgeny Kafelnikov previously commented: “Medvedev and Rublev need to work three times harder than before. It appears to me that neither Daniil nor Andrey currently possesses this level of desire.”
