UFC commentator Michael Bisping is questioning whether Patricio “Pitbull” Freire`s past damage will impact his performance at UFC 314.
Freire, holding a 36-7 MMA record and making his UFC debut, is set to face former interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez (16-5 MMA) this Saturday. They will open the main card at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
Having had a lengthy and successful career in Bellator, where he simultaneously held featherweight and lightweight titles, Freire, nicknamed “Pitbull,” brings significant experience and notable victories. However, at 37 years old, he has lost two of his last three bouts, including one by first-round knockout.
Bisping discussed on his YouTube channel whether Freire, at 37 and transitioning from Bellator, can succeed in the UFC. He acknowledged Freire`s achievements, including a knockout win over Michael Chandler and strong jiu-jitsu skills, but raised concerns about wear and tear due to his extensive career.
With 43 professional fights, 36 wins, and 7 losses, including two knockouts, Freire`s experience is undeniable. His upcoming opponent, Yair Rodriguez, is recognized as a top contender. Rodriguez, previously defeated by Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega, is also seeking to reaffirm his position in the featherweight division.
Bisping suggests that the winner of this matchup could emerge as a potential challenger for the featherweight title, especially given the uncertain landscape of the division beyond Movsar Evloev. He believes this fight holds significant implications for the featherweight title picture, particularly with Volkanovski aiming to remain active.
