UFC fighter Trevor Peek has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming UFC on ESPN 67 event due to a leg injury sustained during training at the UFC Performance Institute.
Peek (9-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) was scheduled to compete against Jeong Yeong Lee (11-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in a featherweight match at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 3rd. However, Peek revealed that he suffered a fractured leg while training in Las Vegas, leading to his removal from the fight card.
In a video shared on Instagram, Peek explained, “I fractured my leg at the Performance Institute on Friday. It`s not a severe fracture, but I need to undergo CT scans to check for any ligament damage.”
He humorously described the incident: “I wish I had a more exciting story, but I was simply jump roping on soft mats. After about 20 minutes, I got a bit tired and lost focus. Coming down on my left leg, I heard a loud pop, like a shotgun.”
Peek mentioned that because the injury occurred at the UFC PI, UFC officials were immediately aware and pulled him from the Des Moines event. He admitted that he would have considered trying to fight through the injury if it could have been kept secret from the UFC. However, recognizing the significance of his next bout and the need to be fully healthy, especially after losing three of his last four fights, he acknowledged the necessity of recovery.
Looking ahead, Peek hopes to recover in time to participate in a UFC event planned for Nashville, Tennessee, on July 12th, although this event has not yet been officially confirmed by the UFC.
