Rublev Comments on Collaboration with Marat Safin

Sports News

World No. 15 Andrey Rublev shared his perspective ahead of his third-round match at Roland Garros against Arthur Fils. The two players have previously met twice, resulting in a tied head-to-head record of 1-1.

When asked about preparing for the match, especially considering his earlier loss to Fils in Monte Carlo and his work with coaches like Marat Safin, Rublev indicated that the specific plan was not yet finalized. He praised Fils, noting he is having a “great season” and performing strongly against top players, highlighting a notable match against Carlos Alcaraz. Rublev expressed confidence in his current form, stating he feels and plays better now compared to their previous encounter in Monte Carlo. He also added that this would be his first time playing a French opponent on a main court, and he was curious to see how that experience would unfold.

Regarding the continuation of his partnership with Marat Safin beyond the agreed-upon clay court season, Rublev expressed a desire to extend their collaboration. However, he clarified that Safin is not looking to become a full-time coach because he prefers not to have that level of commitment. Rublev explained that Safin values his freedom and the ability to manage his own schedule, whereas full-time coaching demands adjusting one`s life significantly to tournament and training schedules. Rublev noted that Safin appreciates the flexibility to join for training sessions when he has a few days available but also needs time for himself afterwards.
