Rolando Rodriguez Hospitalized Following First UFC Defeat in Mexico

MMA News

Rolando Rodriguez faced challenges leading up to UFC on ESPN 64 in Mexico, and things have gotten worse since the event.

After losing to Kevin Borjas at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Rodriguez, known as “Lazy Boy”, revealed that he was hospitalized on Monday. This was due to health issues related to his attempt to make weight for the flyweight fight.

Rodriguez had trouble with the weight limit on Friday, weighing in at 127 pounds, which is one pound over the flyweight limit for non-title fights. He was fined 20% of his fight earnings, and the match against Borjas was changed to a catchweight bout.

“I experienced some problems because of my weight cut, but I am recovering,” Rodriguez shared in Spanish on Instagram, along with photos and videos from the hospital.

Rodriguez did not provide specific details about why he was hospitalized. He lost to Borjas by unanimous decision, marking his first loss in the UFC. Before this fight, which was his first defeat since 2020, Rodriguez had won his previous two UFC fights against Denys Bondar and Ode Osbourne.

UFC on ESPN 64 was a setback for Rodriguez, who is considered a rising star in Mexican MMA with over 2 million Instagram followers. He was expected to win against Borjas and was accompanied to the octagon by Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez.
