Richard Gasquet on His Biggest Career Regret: Never Winning a Grand Slam

Sports News

Former world number seven Richard Gasquet has identified the primary regret of his career. He is set to retire from professional tennis after the upcoming Roland Garros tournament.

“Certainly, I never managed to win a Grand Slam tournament. But I quickly understood that it would be far from easy, especially witnessing the strength of that particular generation of players. I reached the semi-finals three times and genuinely believed I had a chance to win, but each time I was defeated. I did climb to seventh place in the rankings, although my goal was to break into the Top 5. But, that is perfectly acceptable too.”

“What I enjoyed most was defeating those high-caliber opponents, even if it wasn`t something I achieved consistently,” Gasquet stated.
