Four-time Grand Slam doubles champion Rennae Stubbs shared her memorable first encounter with Kazakhstani tennis player Alexander Bublik on the court.
“I remember practicing mixed doubles with him once. He was partnering with Elena Rybakina against Sam Stosur and her partner at the Australian Open,” Stubbs recounted during an episode of The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast. “I saw him from afar for the first time and just thought, `He`s crazy!` He was hitting second serves at 225 km/h, and I honestly had no idea what was happening.” She added, “But I have to admit, his playing style is so unpredictable, and that can become a real advantage, especially on grass.”
Bublik recently achieved a significant milestone by winning the ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Germany, defeating Russian star Daniil Medvedev in the final with a score of 6/3, 7/6(4).
