Reigning French Open Champion Exits Wimbledon in First Round for Third Time

A reigning French Open champion has been defeated in the opening round of Wimbledon for only the third time in the history of the Open Era.

Today, it was American Coco Gauff who lost to Ukraine`s Dayana Yastremska with a score of 6/7(3), 1/6. The only previous instances of a reigning Roland Garros champion suffering an opening-round defeat at the All England Club were when Belgium`s Justine Henin was defeated in 2005 and Italy`s Francesca Schiavone in 2010.
