A power outage impacting both Spain and Portugal was attributed to a `rare atmospheric phenomenon` occurring within Spain. This specific cause was identified as extreme temperature fluctuations in the country`s inland regions. According to the Portuguese grid operator Ren, complete restoration of the power network in Portugal might require up to a week.
Several major cities were affected by the extensive power cut, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, and Lisbon. The outage disrupted transport networks, internet connectivity, and water pumping systems.
At the tennis tournament held in Madrid, the power failure rendered the electronic line-calling and scoring systems inoperable. Consequently, tournament organizers announced the postponement of all Madrid matches to the next day.
