Paula Badosa on Facing Challenges in Madrid

Sports News

Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa, currently ranked World No. 9, shared her perspective on competing at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid.

`It`s disappointing that all my tough moments seem to occur precisely in Madrid. However, putting that aside, last year taught me a great deal – specifically, how to prove to myself that I can return to my competitive level despite facing difficulties.

When you`re coming back from a significant injury layoff, doubts naturally arise. You wonder, `If I managed it once, can I do it again?` It`s an uncertain feeling, and questions pop up. That`s why needing to prove it to myself once more, doing it a second time, and achieving it relatively quickly – within six or seven months – gives me immense confidence. This self-belief is crucial in times like now, having missed several important tournaments.`

The Spaniard has not played since the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami earlier this season, where she withdrew from her fourth-round match against Alexandra Eala.
