Patrick Mouratoglou Reveals How His Lie Contributed to Serena Williams Winning Wimbledon

Sports News

Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, known for working with Naomi Osaka and formerly with Serena Williams, recently shared a surprising story about how he motivated his former star pupil.

Mouratoglou recounted a time when Serena was struggling with her game at the net. “She was making mistakes at the net and was afraid to move forward,” he explained. To overcome this, he admitted to using a tactic based on deception. “I told her: `You win 80% of points at the net.` I lied, but she believed it.”

According to Mouratoglou, this belief had a remarkable impact. “After that, she actually started winning 80% of points at the net,” he revealed. “And she won Wimbledon.”

Mouratoglou shared this anecdote during an appearance on the Tennis Insider Club podcast.
