Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman received fines for two separate incidents during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a $5,000 fine to Walman for roughing Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. This fine was for throwing punches at Tkachuk during a scrum near the Panthers` goal.
Walman also incurred another $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct involving the Panthers bench. He was observed squirting a water bottle towards the Panthers` bench over the glass late in the second period.
In Game 3, Walman accumulated six penalty minutes and failed to register a point, his first game without a point in the series.
Monday`s game was notable for a combined 140 penalty minutes between the teams. A significant line brawl took place in the second period, resulting in misconduct penalties for six players, including Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, and Darnell Nurse.
The Panthers used their depth to overpower the Oilers from the opening face-off, leading to a decisive 6-1 victory. Brad Marchand scored for the third time in the Stanley Cup Final, driving the Panthers` offensive performance.
