The Florida Panthers, defending Stanley Cup champions, avoided falling into a difficult 0-3 series deficit by winning in overtime on Friday night. This victory helped them get back into their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brad Marchand scored the overtime goal off a deflection, securing an unlikely 5-4 win for the home team.
The Maple Leafs had taken a 2-0 lead after the first period, a position that has almost guaranteed a win for them this NHL season. Before Friday`s game, Toronto held a 30-3-0 record when leading after the first and 44-3-1 when holding a two-goal advantage. However, the Panthers overcame two two-goal deficits and even took a 4-3 lead during a high-scoring second period. Florida now has the opportunity to tie the series in Game 4 on Sunday evening.
In the Western Conference, the Winnipeg Jets delivered a dominant performance, shutting out the Dallas Stars 4-0 in Game 2 of their second-round series. Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers, recently back from injury, led the offense with two goals and an assist. Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck achieved his first shutout of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, stopping all 22 shots he faced. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
