The second round of the 2025 NHL playoffs continued on Thursday night with two Game 2 matchups. The Washington Capitals secured a 3-1 victory to tie their series against the Carolina Hurricanes, while the Edmonton Oilers won an exciting overtime game in Vegas.
Following a Game 1 where they were largely outplayed territorially, the Capitals reversed the trend and controlled much of Game 2 against the Hurricanes. Tom Wilson was heavily involved, as is often the case. He contributed his characteristic physical play and also added an assist on the winning goal before scoring an empty-net goal to secure the victory.
Capitals goalie Logan Thompson also had a strong performance, stopping 27 of 28 shots. While he didn`t face constant pressure, he made the necessary saves when tested.
In the Western Conference, the game between the Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights went into overtime. Jack Eichel was instrumental in helping Vegas come back from a two-goal deficit. Eichel was a major factor, driving the play and assisting on Vegas` first three goals.
However, despite Eichel`s efforts, the Golden Knights ultimately lost as Connor McDavid produced a game-winning play in overtime, giving the Oilers a 2-0 series lead heading back to Edmonton.
Fans eager for more playoff action won`t have to wait long. Friday night includes Game 3 between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs, and Game 2 between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets. The Maple Leafs aim to extend their series lead to 3-0, while the Jets will seek to even their series against the Stars at 1-1.
