NHL Playoffs 2025: Stanley Cup Final schedule, bracket, scores, as Oilers meet Panthers in rematch

The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers are set to clash in a highly anticipated rematch for the Stanley Cup Final. The Oilers punched their ticket to the final series after defeating the Dallas Stars 6-3 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final on Thursday night.

Despite the Stars facing elimination, it was the Oilers who displayed greater urgency from the opening face-off. Corey Perry gave Edmonton an early lead with a power-play goal just over two minutes into the first period. Shortly after, Mattias Janmark extended the lead on a breakaway, capitalizing on an untimely line change by the Stars.

Edmonton`s quick two goals were enough for Dallas coach Pete DeBoer to pull starting goaltender Jake Oettinger from the game.

Casey Smith entered the net for Dallas but soon conceded the first career playoff goal for Oilers veteran Jeff Skinner, giving Edmonton a commanding 3-0 lead in the opening frame.

Dallas managed to fight back and narrow the score to 3-2. However, Oilers captain Connor McDavid took over, turning a blocked shot into a dazzling breakaway goal against DeSmith to restore the two-goal cushion.

McDavid finished Game 5 with a goal and an assist, showcasing his elite performance in the series-clinching victory. His linemate, Leon Draisaitl, also contributed significantly with two assists.

Corey Perry`s first-period marker was his seventh goal of the postseason, establishing a new record for the most playoff goals by a player aged 39 or older. Perry`s presence around the net has provided valuable depth scoring for the Oilers.

Advancing to the Stanley Cup Final sets up a familiar showdown with the Florida Panthers. The Panthers comfortably navigated their way through the Eastern Conference, including a win over the Carolina Hurricanes, and are looking to secure back-to-back championships. Edmonton previously faced the Panthers in the 2024 Final, staging a memorable rally from a 3-0 series deficit to force a Game 7. Now, they aim to complete the job this time around.
