The Edmonton Oilers secured a crucial victory in a dramatic Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night, leveling the series against the Florida Panthers at two wins apiece.

The Oilers triumphed 5-4 in overtime, but only after overcoming a significant 3-0 deficit established by the Panthers in the first period. Edmonton staged a remarkable comeback, taking a 4-3 lead late in the third period thanks to a goal from Jake Walman with 6:24 remaining. However, Florida`s Sam Reinhart tied the game dramatically with just 20 seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime – the third of the series.

The series was ultimately tied in overtime when Oilers star Leon Draisaitl sent a shot towards the net that deflected off the skate of Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola and past goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, setting up a pivotal Game 5 in Edmonton on Saturday.

This overtime winner was Draisaitl`s fourth of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, setting a new NHL record.

Historically, teams holding a three-goal lead after the first period in a Stanley Cup Final game were 37-0 all-time before Game 4; they are now 37-1. Furthermore, the Oilers` victory marked the first time since 1919 (Montreal Canadiens vs. Seattle Metropolitans) that a team has come back from a three-goal deficit and won a Stanley Cup Final game on the road.

The series now returns to Edmonton for Game 5 on Saturday, a quick turnaround that sets up a crucial matchup. The question remains: can the Oilers carry this momentum and take the series lead, or will the Panthers rebound and aim to clinch the Cup at home in Game 6?
