LONDON – Michael Page wants his next fight to be against an experienced fighter in the UFC welterweight division.
Page (23-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC), is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Shara Magomedov at UFC Fight Night 250 in February in a middleweight fight, and is planning to return to welterweight.
MVP believes that matches against former 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman or controversial contender Colby Covington would be perfect.
“I don’t know what will happen next, but everyone seems quiet at the moment,” Page said at a UFC fan Q&A on Friday at The O2. “I don’t know if my last fight made some people worried, but everyone is a bit quiet. There are many potential opponents.
“I think a fight between me and Usman would be interesting. I want to punch Colby in the face for some reason. I don’t know why. There are fighters out there. I’m just waiting for them to accept the challenge.”
Usman (20-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC) has not fought since a majority decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev in a short-notice middleweight fight in October 2023. He is currently on a three-fight losing streak but has hinted at a return to competition this year.
Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) is a very controversial figure in MMA. This is a fight that greatly interests “Venom”, and one that he would like to finish in the same style as his Bellator fight against “Cyborg” Santos – with a brutal TKO.
“I’m hoping to repeat a jumping knee to the face,” Page said. “You all saw how that ended, so I hope for the same result.”
Regarding the timing, the 37-year-old Page wants to remain as active as possible. The Brit would like to return to the octagon as soon as possible.
“If I can have two more fights this year, that would be great,” Page said. “I’m trying to get one as soon as possible. There are events in May that I would like to participate in, and again at the end of the year. So definitely two more fights.”
