Medvedev on Practicing with Alcaraz in Rome: “We Both Hit Hard, It Was Cool”

Sports News

Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked World No. 11, shared his thoughts on a recent practice session with World No. 3, Spain`s Carlos Alcaraz, at the Rome Masters tournament.

When asked about the seemingly intense nature of their hitting session and how it was arranged, Medvedev explained:

“The coaches usually arrange these things, but as I understand it, there are quite few courts available for practice here, and you can`t train with your regular hitting partner at certain times. It seems Carlos and I were both alone at that moment, so they paired us up. Frankly, it might have been less about coaches arranging it and more about the court booking system itself. Regardless, we had a great practice. We only played four games afterward, but we hit the ball really well, and I feel like I`m in good shape now.”

He added, “We both hit hard, it was cool. It`s always enjoyable to play with top players, that goes without saying.”

Medvedev also commented on his upcoming fourth-round opponent, Italian player Lorenzo Musetti.

Reflecting on the potential opponents (before Musetti`s win in the other match was confirmed), Daniil stated:

“I recently played Nakashima in Madrid, so I know how I`ll play against him, and he definitely knows how to play against me. Of course, the court here is different. But it looks like Musetti is winning. He is in good form right now. He`s a pure clay courter, so it will be interesting. I need to show my best tennis to try and win.”
