Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, ranked world No. 27, extended a handshake to Daria Kasatkina, the world No. 15, following their second-round match at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.

Previously, Kostyuk had notably not shaken hands with players representing Russia and Belarus. However, Daria Kasatkina recently changed her citizenship and now competes under the Australian flag. Ahead of their encounter, the Ukrainian player stated that she respected Kasatkina`s decision and described her action as courageous.

The match itself concluded with Kostyuk securing a victory in straight sets. This result means Kasatkina`s participation in the Rome tournament has ended.
