Liverpool all-time top scorers: Ian Rush leads the charts; Mo Salah climbing up

Football News

Liverpool is widely recognized as one of the premier football clubs in both England and Europe. Over the years, numerous exceptional players have proudly worn the Reds` famous shirt.

But who stands out as the most prolific goal scorers in the club`s history?

At the top of the list is Ian Rush, who remarkably netted 346 goals in 660 appearances across his two stints at the club.

His most successful season was arguably 1983-84, where he scored 47 goals in 65 games, earning the Golden Boot in both the league and European Cup. That season saw Liverpool achieve a famous league and European Cup double.

Ranking second is Roger Hunt, notable as the sole Liverpool player in England`s starting lineup during their 1966 World Cup final victory.

Hunt scored 285 goals in 492 appearances for the club.

He was instrumental in Liverpool`s return to the First Division, scoring 41 goals in 41 league games in 1961-62 as the club won the Second Division title. The following season, Hunt led the Reds to a memorable First Division championship in 1963-64, again finishing as the leading scorer with 31 goals in 41 league appearances.

Completing the top three is Mohamed Salah, who overtook Gordon Hodgson during the 2024-25 season.

Ian Rush Kenny Dalglish Liverpool

Steven Gerrard, widely regarded as Liverpool`s greatest player and a standout midfielder of his era, made 710 appearances over 17 years, placing him third for most club appearances. He is sixth on the all-time top goal scorers list with 186 goals.

Other notable legends like Robbie Fowler, Kenny Dalglish, and Michael Owen rank seventh, eighth, and ninth, having scored 183, 172, and 158 goals respectively during their distinguished Liverpool careers.

Rounding out the top 10 is Harry Chambers, who netted 151 goals in 339 appearances.

Roberto Firmino Liverpool

Mohamed Salah is the only current player among the top 20 scorers, following the recent exits of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. The `Egyptian King` overtook the legendary Gerrard in the 2023-24 season and then surpassed both Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson in the 2024-25 season to claim third place.
