UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping is strongly backing Tom Aspinall to not only defeat Jon Jones but to do so in a dominant fashion.
The interim UFC heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, is moving closer to a highly anticipated fight to unify the title against current champion Jon Jones.
Bookmakers currently favor Aspinall with odds of -130, while Jones is the underdog at +110. Despite Jones` impressive record with only one controversial disqualification loss, Bisping agrees with the oddsmakers. In a conversation with Carl Froch, Bisping expressed his belief in Aspinall.
“Absolutely, he should be,” Bisping stated, referring to Aspinall being the favorite. “Jon Jones is undeniably a legend, with an incredible career and technically undefeated record. However, every fighter eventually faces their kryptonite. I believe Tom Aspinall represents the new generation of heavyweight fighters, and he has the potential to become the greatest MMA heavyweight ever. While many heavyweights possess strength and power, they lack Aspinall`s speed, agility, and technical prowess.”
Bisping continued, “Tom is the complete package; he`s like a heavyweight Georges St-Pierre, lacking any weaknesses. He has knockout power, incredible discipline, exceptional footwork, and finishes fights rapidly. While he hasn`t faced someone of Jones` caliber yet, mainly due to the heavyweight division`s technical depth, Jones also hasn`t encountered anyone quite like Aspinall.”
Aspinall has secured first-round finishes in his last five victories, with 14 of his 15 professional wins ending in the first round. Bisping went as far as suggesting Jones might suffer a similar quick defeat.
“It would genuinely surprise me – and this might sound disrespectful – but I would be very surprised if this fight goes beyond the first round,” Bisping concluded.
