Jon Anik feels Yair Rodriguez isn`t getting the attention he deserves before UFC 314.
Rodriguez, with a record of 15 wins and 5 losses in MMA, and 10 wins and 4 losses in the UFC, will face Patricio Freire, the Bellator champion in two weight classes (36-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC), in the opening main card fight at UFC 314. The event is scheduled for April 12 at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
Anik is excited to see Freire compete in the UFC, but he especially praised Rodriguez. Despite Rodriguez`s recent two losses after winning the interim featherweight title against Josh Emmett, Anik, who provides commentary for UFC events, thinks Rodriguez is underestimated.
“I have more information on Yair Rodriguez, who is incredibly focused,” Anik mentioned on MMA Junkie Radio. “Team Valle Flow is doing great things, with two champions and the rise of Ignacio Bahamondes. Yair Rodriguez is their most naturally talented fighter.”
“Considering his achievements, like the interim championship, it`s easy to forget his development and not fully appreciate his potential.”
Anik made a strong prediction about Rodriguez`s future.
“I believe Yair Rodriguez, who might be seen as a forgotten fighter at 145 pounds, has the potential to become the undisputed featherweight champion,” Anik continued. “When he’s at his best, he’s a serious challenge. Belal Muhammad says he’s incredibly fast.”
