Brazilian tennis player Joao Fonseca, currently ranked as world No. 60, shared his thoughts on how the men`s professional tour compares to his childhood expectations.
“It`s a difficult question. I think it`s similar,” Fonseca reflected. “Perhaps when you watch tennis on television, you see the top players enjoying their victories. But it`s not that simple; it`s a gradual process: Futures, Challengers, fighting to break into the Top 100. It`s a long journey to reach the main tournaments.”
“When I watched tennis as a child, I wanted to be here and thought it would be easy. But no, the path is long. Fortunately, I went through it quickly, having had some excellent tournaments, and reached this level already,” he added.
“It’s a pleasant experience. When you get to these kinds of tournaments, everything is wonderful. Everything is perfectly arranged, impeccable: the food, the accommodation. When you`re fighting your way through Futures and Challengers, it`s far from ideal. That`s my opinion,” the 18-year-old Brazilian stated at a press conference following his defeat in the round of 32 at the Miami Masters.
