World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner was recently asked about his preference for playing matches during the morning or evening session at ATP tournaments.
Sinner explained his perspective on the variations: “I don`t know if I prefer playing during the day or in the evening. It depends on who I`m playing against. In the evening, the ball is a bit slower, it bounces less, and you can hit harder. During the day, you need to use more spin and angles. Every match has its own theme. Considering the first match, I would have preferred the evening (laughs). But this can change every day.”
Earlier today, May 12th, Sinner secured a victory over Dutchman Jesper de Jong with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the third round of the Rome Masters. In the upcoming round of the tournament, he is scheduled to face Argentine world No. 18 Francisco Cerundolo.
Commenting on his win against de Jong, Jannik stated: “Physically, the first match went well. I felt pretty good. Of course, matches are a bit different. Today I started very well, then I had a dip, which is usually about one and a half games. Today it lasted three and a half games, but that`s normal. This is the second match I`ve played in three and a half months. That`s a long period. Any chance to play again in the tournament is very positive. The fact that I can play a third match is already very, very positive for me and my progress.”
