Henry Cejudo is advocating for Max Holloway to stay in the featherweight division and pursue a fight against Alexander Volkanovski.
Volkanovski recently regained his featherweight championship by defeating Diego Lopes at UFC 314.
While several contenders are in line for a title shot, Cejudo argues that Holloway, despite losing three previous title fights to Volkanovski, should be next. Cejudo expresses confidence that Holloway would be victorious in a fourth encounter.
“The featherweight division is open,” Cejudo commented. “Max Holloway should return and compete. I believe Holloway can defeat anyone in that weight class, including Volkanovski. Although Topuria recently knocked him out, I think Holloway`s striking volume, improved health, stronger chin, will make this fight different.”
Cejudo mentioned concerns about Volkanovski`s defensive reactions, suggesting a potential vulnerability.
“Volkanovski performed well, but his reaction time when hit seemed concerning,” Cejudo stated. “It raises questions about his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria.
“While Volkanovski excels in many areas, his defense has flaws. He often leans back or attempts takedowns without proper hand protection. If Lopes had capitalized on those openings with a strong hook, the fight could have had a different outcome.”
