Golden Knights’ Mark Stone Injured, Out for Game 3

NHL News

The Vegas Golden Knights are facing a challenging situation in their second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers, currently trailing 2-0. Their efforts to turn the series around became significantly harder with the loss of captain Mark Stone, who exited Game 3 due to an upper-body injury and did not return.

The incident occurred during a chaotic first period. Stone was applying pressure to Oilers forward Corey Perry when he lost his balance and slid to the ice. Stone`s head made contact with Perry`s knee. The Vegas captain initially took a moment to recover before skating back to the bench.

Following the collision, Stone went down the tunnel towards the locker room and was not available for the second period. The Golden Knights organization subsequently announced that Stone would miss the remainder of the game.

Beyond his leadership role in the dressing room, Stone is a crucial offensive player for the Golden Knights, leading the team in goals during the current playoffs with four goals in eight games. In the regular season, his 67 points were second only to Jack Eichel on the team.

Stone was arguably the most vital player for the Golden Knights during their successful Stanley Cup run in 2023. He demonstrated exceptional defensive ability in tough assignments and was highly productive offensively, recording 24 points in 22 games.

With Stone sidelined, Vegas will need to rely even more heavily on Jack Eichel, and increased contributions will be expected from players such as Tomas Hertl and Ivan Barbashev to compensate for his absence.
