The debut events of the Global Fight League, initially planned for May, have been canceled.

GFL was preparing to launch its first fight nights on May 24th and 25th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The cancellation of these events was confirmed by the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, Andy Foster.

Darren Owen, the founder of GFL, stated that a primary investor did not meet their financial commitments for April. He expressed hope to reschedule the inaugural events for June and affirmed the league`s commitment to moving forward.

GFL had planned an extensive program of 30 fights for its two-day launch, evenly divided across the two event cards.

The May 24th event was expected to feature matches like Urijah Faber versus Renan Barao, Anthony Pettis versus Benson Henderson, and Holly Holm versus Julia Budd. The May 25th event was set to include fights such as Tony Ferguson versus Dillon Danis, Ovince Saint Preux versus Alexander Gustafsson, Uriah Hall versus Douglas Lima, and Paige VanZant versus Randi Field.

GFL promoted a team-based competition format and conducted its first draft in January, assigning its roster of UFC veterans to teams representing cities like Dubai, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Sao Paulo.
