Formula 1 has officially unveiled its schedule for the 2026 racing season. The newly released calendar includes the debut of a Grand Prix event set to take place in Madrid, while the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit has been removed.
The 24-race calendar received formal approval from Formula 1`s governing body, the FIA, during a session of the World Motor Sport Council held recently.
Plans for the new race in Madrid were initially announced in 2024. However, the event`s definitive inclusion on the calendar is still pending the official homologation of the circuit by the FIA.
With the addition of Madrid, the Imola circuit, which hosted the final race under its existing contract in May, will no longer feature on the schedule. This change maintains the total number of races at the 24-event cap Formula 1 has established.
Beyond the introduction of Madrid, the schedule sees other significant changes. The Monaco Grand Prix is moving from its traditional position in late May to early June, thus avoiding a clash with the Indianapolis 500 race.
The Canadian Grand Prix is also set for a new date in late May. This alteration aims to optimize logistics, allowing equipment used at the Miami Grand Prix to remain within North America rather than being shipped back across the Atlantic to Europe.
The 2026 season is slated to commence in Australia on March 8 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 6, spanning approximately 10 months.
This season will also be notable as the first under a set of new technical regulations. These changes include revised hybrid power units designed to draw 50% of their power from a battery pack and 50% from an internal combustion engine running on sustainable fuel.
Furthermore, the competitive landscape will evolve with Cadillac entering as the 11th team, the Sauber team undergoing a rebranding to become Audi, and Ford partnering with Red Bull to supply engines.
The United States will continue to host three rounds of the championship: the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, the U.S. Grand Prix held in Austin, Texas, on October 25, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 21.
