Codemasters and EA Sports have rolled out Update 1.06 for F1 25, targeting some of the simulation`s most persistent challenges. Available now across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, this patch focuses heavily on refining the car handling experience, particularly under challenging wet conditions, alongside addressing numerous other gameplay and stability issues.
Perhaps the most significant change addresses the unpredictable nature of wet weather racing. Players often found the automatic gearbox in rainy conditions led to frustrating short-shifting in higher gears, hindering their ability to compete with the AI on pace. Patch 1.06 adjusts this automatic behavior, aiming to level the playing field and make rainy races genuinely competitive, rather than a lottery influenced by gearbox logic.
Complementing this, adjustments have been made to front ride height and floor friction. Previously, player cars seemed to suffer disproportionately from underbody scraping, losing top speed where AI cars did not. The update reduces this effect, ensuring that clipping the track surface is less punishing and more consistent between player and AI.
Beyond the heat of the race, the patch also brings welcome stability to the Driver and My Team career modes. Several critical issues that could derail a save have been addressed, including rare scenarios where a team might end up with three drivers, a player could receive no contract offers at the season`s end, or a My Team outfit couldn`t fill its driver roster. These fixes are crucial for long-term player engagement, preventing frustrating roadblocks in your virtual championship bid.
A slew of other improvements rounds out the update. Graphical glitches at various tracks, specific car model errors (farewell, strangely damaged Alonso car), and minor inconsistencies have been ironed out. Audio cues from the race engineer have been refined, offering more relevant advice on tire wear and correctly identifying car issues – no more being told a DRS problem is an `engine issue`. PC players benefit from updated OpenVR SDK, HDR/FreeSync fixes, and the integration of AMD FSR 3.1.4, promising better visual fidelity and performance options. Even the game`s menu system and stability receive attention, with UI improvements and general stability fixes.
And finally, for those who follow the real-world drama, a small tease suggests the virtual grid might soon reflect recent heroics. Sauber`s Nico Hülkenberg, fresh off ending his monumental podium drought (and Sauber`s since 2012) at Silverstone, is hinted as a likely candidate for a driver rating boost. It seems the virtual world, much like the real one, sometimes needs a moment to catch up to extraordinary performances.
Overall, Update 1.06 appears to be a significant step towards refining F1 25`s core simulation, addressing player pain points and enhancing the overall experience both on track and in the career modes.
