David Martinez Eager to Shine in Front of Home Crowd at UFC Mexico City

MMA News

MEXICO CITY – David Martinez spoke to the media on Wednesday, expressing his anticipation for his upcoming fight at UFC on ESPN 64.

Martinez (11-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is scheduled to face Saimon Oliveira (18-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in a main card bout at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. During the pre-fight media day, Martinez answered questions from reporters.

Hailing from Mexico, Martinez earned his UFC contract on Dana White`s Contender Series last fall. The former Combate Global bantamweight champion has a strong finishing rate, with nine of his eleven victories coming by way of knockout. He aims to continue this trend against Oliveira on Saturday, hoping for a memorable debut.

“I feel fantastic and incredibly excited to be making my UFC debut, especially here in Mexico in front of my countrymen. It`s a dream scenario,” Martinez stated. “It`s been some time since I last fought here – fighting in the capital, with all my friends and family watching – it`s absolutely perfect.”

Despite the potential pressure of fighting in such an environment, Martinez believes he can maintain his usual approach, which is to seek the finish.

“Saimon is an experienced fighter within the organization, having also competed on DWCS. He has demonstrated good striking skills, with a Muay Thai background, as well as jiu-jitsu expertise. This fight could realistically play out in any phase,” Martinez commented. “However, I am thoroughly prepared for all possibilities and ready for wherever the fight takes us.”
