World number 10, Daniil Medvedev, spoke about his preparations for the tournament in Madrid.
Commenting on the observation about the significant number of service games lost during a training session with Karen Khachanov – noting that holding serve is generally easier on hard courts – Medvedev explained that this is a typical occurrence on clay surfaces.
“This is clay,” he stated in an interview with the YouTube channel `Bolsh!`. “In Monte Carlo, we saw that almost everyone was losing their serves, except for those who are already well-adapted to this surface and know what to do. Like Musetti, and even he lost sets 6/1.”
Medvedev continued, “You have to be ready for this on clay. I got annoyed with Karen during the training, but I understood that this is clay – there will be opportunities to come back. And that`s what happened.”
He added that even in their match in Monte Carlo, where he had the lead, he wasn`t overly frustrated by the lost serves because on clay, losing serve is accepted, and the game is decided in the rallies that follow.
