SEO Description: World No. 11 Daniil Medvedev shares insights on when his daughters might join him on tour, the unique experience of an exhibition practice at Piazza del Popolo, and his strategic practice session with Corentin Moutet before defeating Cameron Norrie in Rome.
World No. 11 Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev spoke about when he plans to start bringing his daughters, Alisa and Victoria, with him to tournaments.
Q: Karen Khachanov mentioned bringing his entire large family to Rome. When will you bring all your girls to a tournament? And how do you entertain yourselves in the city during breaks between matches?
A: Yes, but my second child is younger, so we haven`t traveled with the daughters since the second one was born. Maybe we`ll venture to Wimbledon or somewhere else together where we can rent a house, which would make it easier to organize everything. For now, only Dasha [his wife] is here. Dasha sometimes travels without the children, so we are having fun here as a couple.
Medvedev and his wife Daria first became parents in October 2022. Their second daughter was born in early January of this year.
Medvedev also commented on participating in an exhibition practice session held at Piazza del Popolo before the Masters tournament in Rome.
Q: You went to Piazza del Popolo and held an exhibition practice there. How was that experience overall, what did you gain from it, and have you ever had such an unusual court experience before?
A: I probably can`t recall a similar setting in such a square. I often ate there in previous years, went to restaurants, so it was cool. I also practiced with Moutet there just for the fun of it. It was a very interesting experience, and it was long before the tournament. The point is that even if they lay the courts exactly the same way, they will still feel different from the ones here [at the tournament venue]. I don`t know how to explain it. So, it was simply great to practice so long before the tournament, let`s say, among all the people.
Additionally, Medvedev discussed his practice session with Corentin Moutet before his match against Britain`s Cameron Norrie at the Rome Masters, a match Daniil won 6/4, 6/2.
Q: Am I correct in understanding that when you found out your opponent would be Norrie, you wanted to practice with a left-handed player? You sparred with Corentin Moutet on one of those days.
A: Yes, I know that during matches he behaves uniquely and often has issues with other players. But in practice, I think he doesn`t have problems with anyone. At least, we practice normally together; in fact, we`ve practiced quite often throughout our careers, perhaps five or six times. We were just waiting for the match results; the coach always tells us that. So, we waited for the results, and when Norrie won, it was quite late. The coach texted several left-handed players he knew weren`t playing the next day. And Moutet was one of them. Despite the fact that he himself was scheduled to play a lefty next [Ugo Humbert], he agreed, and we had an excellent practice session.
