World No. 46 Danielle Collins shared her perspective on the emotional aspects of professional tennis.
“It`s impossible to achieve success in anything without self-expression. There are practically no successful people who feel they cannot be themselves,” Collins stated. “Ultimately, I am competing. I am not shy or quiet. And I want to be successful in tennis, and at this level, that can require emotions. Sometimes this path forces you to express them, and they can be negative. In such moments, people can get upset, so it`s important to overcome them.”
She acknowledged the difficulties posed by the modern world, including external noise, people`s reactions, and criticism. However, she believes that by staying true to oneself and dedicating effort to competition, positive results will follow.
“In the world we live in, it can be difficult. Because of the noise, because of what people say and do, because of criticism and so on. But in the end, if you try to be yourself and put effort into competing, everything will work out,” Collins concluded in an on-court interview after advancing to the quarterfinals in Strasbourg.
