UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski and his coach both agree that Movsar Evloev should be the next challenger for the title.
Volkanovski, with a record of 27 wins and 5 losses in MMA (14-4 in UFC), regained his featherweight title by defeating Diego Lopes (27-6 MMA, 6-1 UFC) by unanimous decision at UFC 314 in Miami.
Joe Lopez, Volkanovski`s head coach, acknowledges Movsar Evloev`s strong wrestling abilities but is confident that Volkanovski`s strength will be too much for him.
Lopez stated in an interview that Evloev is a capable wrestler who can take opponents down, but he doesn`t capitalize much on the ground, which makes his fighting style less exciting. However, Lopez believes Evloev won`t be able to control Volkanovski, emphasizing Volkanovski`s superior strength, scrambling skills, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling. He highlighted Volkanovski`s ability to quickly adapt and improve, using their training camp for the Diego Lopes fight as an example. Initially, Volkanovski faced challenges in guard positions against training partners mimicking Lopes` skills, but by the end of camp, he dominated those scenarios. Lopez believes Lopes experienced this firsthand when Volkanovski took him down, realizing it was a dangerous position due to Volkanovski`s heavy pressure and aggressive ground-and-pound.
Volkanovski has indicated he wants to quickly defend his title against Evloev, and the undefeated contender Evloev expects Volkanovski to keep his word.
