Ben Shelton Focuses on Daily Learning After Tough Madrid Masters Match

World No. 13 Ben Shelton has spoken about his progress into the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open in Spain. In a challenging second-round encounter, the American secured a determined comeback victory against Mariano Navone of Argentina with a final score of 4/6, 7/6(5), 6/3.

“Step by step. Match by match. I’m trying to feel more comfortable and learn something every day,” Shelton commented after the match. “I`ve played on many clay courts this season, and whether I win or lose, I learn. I`m simply enjoying this experience here in Europe. I feel I’m doing things right and not getting overly frustrated by the small details. I understand that on clay, you don`t have to be perfect, but you certainly need to be tough and resilient.”

The 22-year-old American is scheduled to play against Czech player Jakub Mensik in his next match.
