Andrey Rublev Suffers Fifth Straight Loss Against Top-5 Opponent

Sports News

World No. 14 Andrey Rublev was unable to advance to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

He was defeated by the reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, with a score of 7:6(5), 3/6, 4/6, 4/6. This loss marks Rublev`s fifth consecutive defeat against a top-5 ranked player, and his 11th straight loss to a top-5 opponent at a Grand Slam event (bringing his record to 0-11).

Since 2020, the Russian player had reached the quarterfinals at least once in the first three Grand Slam tournaments of the year, with the Australian Open being his best performance last season. However, since that achievement, Rublev has failed to reach the quarterfinals in any of the subsequent six major tournaments.
