World No. 39 Anastasia Potapova commented on her victory over Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Madrid tournament, which she won with a score of 6/7(7), 6/4, 6/2.
Q: The match didn`t start favorably. It turned into a comeback victory. What allowed you to break your opponent?
A: I believe I managed to break her due to the correctly chosen tactics, and, of course, the will to win and the desire not to give up. Essentially, following the plan we discussed with the team before the match worked throughout the entire match, especially on the return.
Q: Did Ashlyn Krueger surprise you in any way? You`ve never played her before.
A: No, I haven`t played her, but I watched many of her matches. Honestly, she`s been talked about quite a bit recently. She probably didn`t surprise me with anything because, basically, everything was expected. That she would serve well and strongly, especially given her height. That she would hit powerfully – that was also expected. That she wouldn`t like long rallies. Overall, she didn`t surprise me, but I must give her credit. I think with her size and game, she has every possibility to break into the Top 10. I wish her that.
