Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, currently ranked world No. 62, has achieved a rare feat at Roland Garros: becoming the lowest-ranked player to secure multiple consecutive victories against Top 10 opponents at the tournament since Ukraine`s Andrey Medvedev did so in 1999 when ranked world No. 100.
In the fourth round (Round of 16), Bublik defeated British world No. 5 Jack Draper in four sets: 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. This victory followed his second-round upset of Australian world No. 9 Alex de Minaur.
Bublik`s impressive run also marks a historic moment for Kazakhstan, as he becomes the first player from the country to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal.
For a spot in his maiden Grand Slam semi-final, Bublik is set to face either world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy or world No. 15 Andrey Rublev of Russia.
