2025 NHL Playoff Picture: Standings, Schedule, and Projected Matchups

NHL News

The field for the Stanley Cup Playoffs is almost complete. With less than a week remaining in the regular season, only four playoff spots are still undecided. Playoff seeding is also highly contested, with many first-round matchups still uncertain.

In the Eastern Conference, the Washington Capitals have secured the top seed. They are waiting to see who they will face in the first round, with the Montreal Canadiens being the most likely opponent, despite being one of the hottest teams recently. The New York Rangers, among a few others, still have a slim chance to overtake the Canadiens for the final playoff spot.

The Western Conference presents a different scenario, with four teams competing for the remaining two spots. The Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, and Calgary Flames are all in contention for wild card positions. The Flames are considered the underdogs, although they recently secured a head-to-head victory against the Wild on Friday night.

The playoff landscape is expected to change daily, so stay updated with our NHL playoff race tracker. It will be refreshed daily to reflect the standings of each potential playoff team as the postseason approaches. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are scheduled to begin on April 19.
